I don't like jasperserver much, mainly because it means just putting together some .jrxml template and writing some sql query. Most of time it's really dull.
Hmm. Sounds like that's the whole point, having it all already done for you :) but I don't like it. Using jasperreports at least means writing some java code, and of course you don't need to maintain a jasperserver.
Well, what I wanted to complain about is editing reports via iReport. Report templates are stored in the server repository, and iReport opens a temporary file, which can be edited and saved locally. Then to update the report, you open it in repository navigator and select 'Replace with current document'. That's shown on the screenshot above. It seems like the fastest way, and it is recommended to do so in the user guide.
So am I the only person who occasionally replaces the wrong file?..
They all look the same (some rectangles or some xml code). They don't even have names (file_1441354658835? yeah, sure).
Sooner or later, a swearword will follow a click :)
Maybe that's just a minor issue. Besides, I can't quite see how to make the process more convenient. For now, rules are obvious: close all files except one you're working on, be extra careful, have backups. Yeah yeah, especially the last one. Gotta be another way.
Swearword? Fine! Imagine "click" - and stunned silent person... :)
